5/17/2013 - Eurofideme 2 and Holmen will build a 51 mw wind farm in the municipality of Norrtälje in a jointly-owned company. The annual production is an estimated 165 GWh with 17 wind turbines and the wind farm is planned to commence operation in autumn 2014.

5/17/2013 - Globeleq has inaugurated its 44 MW Eolo de Nicaragua S.A. wind farm in Nicaragua. The Eolo wind farm is located in the province of Rivas on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, about 123 kms south of the capital Managua. Using 22 x 2.0 MW Gamesa G90 wind turbine generators, electricity is sold through two 20-year PPAs to the national privately owned distribution companies.

5/16/2013 - Empower Energies completed four new photovoltaic solar projects at the General Motors Warren Technical Center campus, in Warren, MI. The installations include a 49 kw ground-mounted solar array and three solar Electric Vehicle charging stations.

5/16/2013 - FireFlower Alternative Energy has partnered with First Highland Management & Development to develop the largest rooftop solar array in the City of Boston. The project is located in the Boston/Dedham Commerce Park at 65 Sprague Street. The solar array covers 120,000 square feet of rooftop and has a 974-kilowatt capacity.

5/16/2013 - Walmart completed eight new solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays in Massachusetts with an event at its Walpole store. With almost 10,000 panels, the solar PV arrays throughout the state will provide 2.8 million kilowatt hours (kWh) annually.

5/16/2013 - REC Solar, completed a 500 kilowatt community solar project in Boulder, Colorado. The Boulder Cowdery Meadows Solar Array allows any utility ratepayer to directly purchase energy from a “solar garden” and save money on monthly electricity bills.

5/16/2013 - Upsolar completed a 1.5 MW solar electric system in Kozani, capital of the West Macedonia region in Greece. The ground-mounted project is comprised of three-500 kW systems and more than 6,500 UP-M230P modules. The systems were built by engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms Sun El A.E. and Gortys Ltd.

5/16/2013 - The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has awarded a contract to Siemens Government Technologies, Inc. to construct the federal government’s largest wind farm. The Pantex wind farm is expected to save an average of $2.9 million annually over the 20-year contract term. The installation will consist of five 2.3 megawatt turbines located on 1,500 acres of government-owned property east of the Pantex plant in Amarillo, Texas.

5/10/2013 - Sempra U.S. Gas & Power officials and community leaders dedicated the 150 mw first phase of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power's Mesquite Solar facility in Arlington, Ariz., about 40 miles west of Phoenix. Mesquite Solar 1 is part of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power's 4,000-acre Mesquite Solar complex, with the potential to build out up to 700 MW of capacity.

5/10/2013 - The first solar power plant in the Sub-Saharan mainland was on Thursday commissioned at Pungu, near Navrongo in the Kassena-Nanka East Municipality of the Upper East Region. The construction of the 2 mw solar power plant was undertaken and financed by the Volt River Authority, at the cost US $8 million and comprises of six photovoltaic arrays, covering 9.6 acres of land.

5/10/2013 - South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries will build the 7 mw prototype wind turbine. For a five-year period, it will tower more than 640 feet just off Scotland's east coast at the Fife Energy Park in Methil. The demonstration turbine will be used to test new designs and models with the aim of increasing the reliability and efficiency of the power they produce.

5/8/2013 - Nestle Purina PetCare today unveiled the Company's largest solar array at its Atlanta pet food manufacturing facility designed and installed by United Renewable Energy. Nestle Purina Atlanta's solar array is made of 1,900 solar panels and will produce more than 585,000 kilowatt hours of clean sustainable energy each year.

5/8/2013 - KDC Solar LLC, headquartered in Bedminster, New Jersey has commenced commercial operations at North Jersey Media Group's printing facility in Rockaway, New Jersey. The 4.96 mw solar project uses over 20,400 photovoltaic panels, 10 SMA America 500 kilowatt inverters and is ground mounted, roof mounted and on car ports across 50 acres of land.

5/8/2013 - SolarCity Corporation and the City of Sacramento today announced the completion of two solar installations to power the city’s E.A. Fairbairn Water Treatment Plant on the American River and the Sacramento River Water Treatment Plant on the Sacramento River. SolarCity financed, installed and will maintain the solar systems at no cost to the City. The two water treatment plants’ solar systems, totaling 1.5 megawatts, boost the City of Sacramento’s total solar capacity by 80 percent.

5/8/2013 - Construction has started on the first phase of a solar project by Forest City Military Communities and SolarCity to provide solar electricity to 6,500 military family residences at Ohana Military Communities, which serves Navy Region Hawaii and Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The latest SolarStrong project is scoped for a planned 24 mw of generation capacity. SolarCity and Forest City have finished installing the first 700 kilowatts of solar capacity at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and will soon initiate the first installations on Navy Region Hawaii.

5/8/2013 - IKEA plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its store in Stoughton, Massachusetts. The 118,000-square-foot PV array consists of a 590.8-kW (DC) system, built with 4,220 laminated panels. IKEA Stoughton’s program will produce approximately 695,000 kWh of clean electricity annually. This installation represents the 38th completed solar project for IKEA in the U.S., with one more location underway, making the eventual IKEA solar presence nearly 90% of its U.S. locations, with a total generation of 38 MW.

Both projects are located in Texas, U.S.A.

TNB Remaco, and Operation and Maintenance Contract Partner with builder Laraib Energy Limited, recently completed the 84 MW New Bong Hydroelectric Power Complex, which is located on the Jhelum River in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

5/6/2013 - The Solar Impulse, an airplane traveling across the United States using only solar power, is in Phoenix today, after reaching Arizona from California Saturday. It took the plane about 20 hours to travel from Mountain View, Calif., near San Francisco. With a maximum altitude of nearly 28,000 feet and an average speed of about 40 miles per hour, the Solar Impulse will make three more stops — in Dallas, Saint Louis, and Washington, D.C. — as it crosses the United States. It will then head to New York City.

5/6/2013 - Ormat Technologies, Inc. reached commercial operation of Plant 2 in the Olkaria III complex in Naivasha, Kenya, increasing the company's total generating capacity by 36 MW to 611 MW worldwide. Ormat also plans to add an additional 16 MW of generation at Olkaria III by building a third plant, which it expects to complete in 2014. Once Plant 3 is complete, total capacity at the Olkaria III complex will reach approximately 100 MW.

5/6/2013 - General Electric Co. will sell $895.3 million of turbines to Bioenergy Geradora de Energia Ltda., a Brazilian company seeking to develop the world’s cheapest wind energy. GE will deliver 207 turbines to 13 of Bioenergy’s projects in the northeastern state of Maranhao and will furnish another 170 others for future project.

5/3/2013 - Verizon will invest $100 million in a solar and fuel-cell energy project that will help power 19 of its facilities in seven states across the country. When completed, the project will enable Verizon to annually generate more than 70 million kilowatt hours.
